THE AILING EARTH

 INTRO

Before starting with this article, I would like to make you all familiar with the word- "Ailing" and with the topic- "The Ailing Earth". So the word "ailing" means unhealthy and the topic "The Ailing Earth" can be best described as our unhealthy and sick planet suffering from lot of diseases causing the end of this planet.

Around 4.54 billion years ago, a beautiful planet was formed which was Earth enabling various species to live on and given a source of life by providing different essential features needed for the survival.

In this article we will not discuss more on the detailed history, but will see the main causes for the depletion of Earth and also discuss about few corrective measures to actually work upon.

REASONS BEHIND DEPLETION:

SO, if we talk about the causes for depletion, then the main reason behind the depletion  of our planet is the day by day increasing population, pollution, deforestation, land degradation, biodiversity loss and  the most crucial is  "unsustainable development" done by the demon people living on Earth. And, they do all these only in order to satisfy their own zeal and needs. Slowly but surely they are continuously exhausting the Earth's natural resources including both renewable as well as non- renewable for doing such the development which ultimately will cause the fatal end of the life on Earth. If we discuss more about unsustainable development then it refers to such development which is currently in progress at the expense of future generation. In layman's language, it can be defined to all such developments which is done by causing harm to the nature and will ultimately result in end of the natural resources and the future generation will not be able to avail the benefits of the natural resources due to their exhaustibility.

The people existing on Earth are the most dangerous creature for Earth as continuously, they are harming the nature either directly or indirectly. Doing development for the satisfaction of needs is not bad but doing that development in unsustainable manner is totally unfair and should not be tolerated.

SOME FACTS AND DATA

reference- THE WORLD COUNTS

Here are the some factual data describing the report on Earth's depletion:

  • According to a study, every year almost 55 billion tons of fossil energy, minerals, metals and bio mass from the Earth is extracted.
  • The Earth has already exhausted almost 80% of the area covering the forests and is in continuation of losing them at a rate of 375km2/day.
  •   A study also shown that 5-10% of tropical species will become extinct every decade.
  • As per a research, every hour almost 1692 acres of productive dry land become deserted.
  • 27% of our coral reefs have been destroyed. If the rate continues, then the remaining 60% will also get exhausted in the next 30 years.
  • We also have a garbage island floating in our ocean, mostly comprised of plastics- the size of India, Europe and Mexico combined more garbage island in the ocean.
  • We are using up 50% more natural resources than our Earth can provide.
HERE ARE THE SOME CHALLENGES TO THE EARTH'S ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Land Degradation
  2. Biodiversity Loss
  3. Deforestation
  4. Water Pollution
  5. Soil Erosion
  6. Air Pollution
PREVENTIVE MEASURES TO REDICATE THE EFFECT

  1. Control on Population- If we keep the population under the control then automatically the Earth's environment can be protected as increasing population is causing an increase in the demand. So if the demand will be less, then the earth's vital resources can be conserved .

  2. Plantation- Continuous plantation will help in decreasing the pollution as the trees are a major source of providing oxygen by absorbing the carbon dioxide. For attaining this, we have to do a promise from ourselves then every week 2 new tress should be planted and if we are destroying a single plant then in return we must plant 2 more.
  3. Control on Pollution- Pollution can be easily controlled by eliminating the use of harmful gases like- Co2, CFCs, etc. Instead, we
must make use of environment friendly substitutes. We should also use cleaner fuels for day to day uses like- substituting petrol and diesels with CNG, substituting polluting cooking gases with LPG, etc.
  4. Become input efficient- Technological progress should be made to become input efficient instead of input consuming. It clearly means, efforts should be made to produce more and more per unit of input. This will surely reduce the exploitation of resources.
  5. Substitute the use of non-renewable resources with renewable ones- As we know very well that non-renewable resources can be exhausted therefore we must develop renewable substitutes, so as to maintain the flow of services over the time.

DRAW TO A CLOSE

We must do each and every development which is sustainable in nature so that the Earth's resources cannot be tired out and the future generation can also be able to take the befits of the natural resources. We have to take care of the Earth in the same way parents take care of their own children. If we'll take care of Earth then surely our Earth will also take care of us.

And to sum up, I would like to urge from each and every people living on Earth they are not capable of taking care of our planet then they kindly don't use the earth's resources mischievously and negligently.

A short phrase for a moral ending- "IF YOU WILL SAVE YOUR PLANET TODAY THEN SURELY THE PLANET WILL ALSO SAVE YOU TOMORROW".
